Welcome to my website.
One of my latest works is for the promotion of the Songs of Hope Benefit Concert for Japan Earthquake Relief, given on Sunday, May 1, 2011 at 3 PM at the Daniels Recital Hall, 5h & Marion St. in Seattle.
I am an artist and pianist, and teach both drawing and painting, and piano on the Eastside.
Enjoy checking out my site.
The initial idea for the image of this poster was of a wave of energy of love and support surrounding the People of Japan. This image has inspired another painting on which I am currently working. When I learned of some of the instruments being played in the concert, I began to place them in a somewhat circular pattern around a literal aerial view of Japan. These lead the eye in a continuing circle about the Islands, from the obvious direction of the cherry blossom branch, to the directions of the violin and the flute, to the uplift of the left hand on the piano, to the subtle but foundational position of the koto, to the total mass of the cello and cellist nestled up to the Islands-- such that the Island of Hokkaido, the head of this jade and malachite dragon, can rest on his shoulder for this moment of healing music.
I purposely left faces unseen or unclarified, as even though the individual performers ought to be acknowledged here today, my focus is about the music and the others—the many people behind the scenes, who may never be seen or known, who brought to the creation of this event; the many gracious people who have donated energies of all forms to this relief effort; and the many people in Japan and elsewhere to whom our hearts are open.
