I teach various methods and techniques in drawing, including contour drawing from life, gesture drawing, and my own "window" drawing technique that helps to get a quick perspective of what you are seeing relative to the area of your paper. I prefer to teach with charcoal, as it lends itself to immediate transition between line and shape masses, more resembling a brush than a pencil, however your comfort level with drawing pencils is respected.
There are 3 things we are dealing with as an artist:
1. What we see.
2. What we think we see.
3. What we draw or paint.
Removing the second one is the practice of
seeing and drawing as an artist.
I also teach drawing as a form of meditation and relaxation, of turning off the internal talking we often have trouble with as we chill from the day's work, and turning off the left brain hemisphere so that we may see as an artist sees.

I teach piano through classical piano pieces and through improvisation, using primarily the Pattern Play music book series.
I believe that playing and teaching based upon what the student likes makes all the difference in how they learn and perform.
